মিথ্যা : A Misconception

“I just don’t get time for all
this”
“What do you do for the entire
day?”
And I remained silent. My Dad was complaining I don’t do
anything except using my phone and laptop, and I even stopped writing. It’s
been 5 months since I wrote my last blog! I don’t know what I do, but at the
end of the day, I just don’t have any time. Do you feel me? Do you too have a
very long to-do list and think that 86,400 seconds a day are not enough for the
ambitious agenda!? Then, you are reading the right blog because I just
discovered the Magic Mantra to solve this!
And the mantra is very simple, it’s just a 5 letter word
– D M A I C! It means Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. Trust
me, this mantra can literally solve anything. It is actually a 5 step quality
or process improvement strategy used by many organizations. Still, we can
easily use it in our day-to-day lives. Let’s proceed step by step:
Step 1: Define the problem
Ask yourself, what is the problem? In my case, it is undoubtedly
lack of time management. I don’t have enough time to spend on this blog
or do anything creative. You can have some other problem, say procrastination!
(Well that is again one of my problems :D) Anyway, my point is once you know
your problem, you will have an objective too. My aim is to dedicate at least 1
hour each day for this blog or just read a novel without hampering my studies
and internship work and reduce the time wasted on unproductive jobs.
Step 2: Measure
In my case, I thoroughly went through my daily routine,
made a list of my daily tasks, and noted the time spent on each task.
Task |
Time(in hrs) |
Sleep |
6 |
Studying |
2 |
Internship |
5 |
Watching Television/Netflix etc |
4 |
Household Chores |
1 |
Eating, Shower, etc |
4 |
Miscellaneous |
2 |
Total |
24 |
Making a list will always help in better visualization of
things! In the case of procrastination, you can come up with a list of work you
have with specific deadlines and the percentage of work done for each of them.
Task |
Deadline |
Percentage of Work Done |
Internship Report |
1st July |
30% |
HRM Project |
20th June |
10% |
Market Research Assignment |
5th June |
60% |
Step 3: Analyze
Once we have the list prepared, all we need to do is look
closely into it. Now you have to ask yourself simple questions like I did.
1.
What do I do
in the miscellaneous for 2 hours? Is it helping me anyhow?
2.
Is watching
television and Netflix for 4 hours contributing to my goals in life? Is it
doing anything redeeming?
3.
Can I cut
some hours from these and devote to writing?
4.
Is there
something else that I could do to relax?
When I answered the above questions, I realized that:
1.
I waste 2
hours of the day doing absolutely nothing.
2.
I spend more
time watching Netflix than studying.
3.
I don’t even
sleep for 7 hours, which I should.
Similarly, if you look into the second list, you can ask
questions like, “Which work should be my first priority?”, “How many hours
should I devote each day to safely make it to the deadline?” etc.
Step 4: Improve
Once we know what we are doing wrong, we can easily
improvise it! So, I made a routine and tried it for a week, and guess what? It
worked!!!
Task |
Time |
Hours |
Sleep |
23:00-06:00 |
7 |
Internship |
08:00-12:00 13:00-14:00 |
5 |
Read a book or Write something |
06:30-07:30 16:30-17:30 |
2 |
Studying |
18:00-22:00 |
4 |
Watching TV/Netflix |
14:00-16:00 |
2 |
Eating, Shower, etc. |
|
4 |
Total |
|
24 |
Now, I have sufficient time to finish all my assignments
as I study 2 hours more. I can easily watch one movie every day with 2 hours of
Netflix time. Getting 7 hours of sleep makes me feel more active without that
cup of coffee, and yeah, I spend 2 hours of my day doing something except using
phone or laptop, and that makes my Dad happy!!
Step 5: Control
Last but not least, Control rakhna zaruri hain! Once
we come up with a routine, we gotta monitor it like a hawk! So, to keep myself
disciplined, I use this app called ‘Timetune’, you will find it on play store.
I have uploaded the entire routine there and the app keeps me on track with timely
alarms. Wese bhi Jeetu Bhaiya ne kaha hai ki habit banana k lie sirf 21 din
Chahiye! So, all we have to do is stick to this routine for 21 days to make
it a habit and then continue it for 90 days to make it a lifestyle!
Toh,
hain na easy?! With so much going all around the world, we
must keep ourselves in tune. Even if the country is in lockdown, we must not! I
hope this will somehow help you all. Do try this mantra and share your
experiences. Till then, stay at home, stay safe, ta-da!
Nice one... especially the cons of excessive use of gadgets in a wrong way...and yes habit banane k liye 21 days chahiye

DeleteVery Nice act of introspection and implementation!! Our problems of life are generally results of our Habits! I liked how you stressed upon rectifying our Habits, because we after all, are just the collection of our Habits!! All the Best, Keep sharing your thoughts and ideas like this....
ReplyDeleteThanks Mayur. These comments really mean a lot! I will surely try jotting down more of such ideas. 🌙
DeleteSuch a good introspection. Its motivating and will surely try to use this mantra🙏
ReplyDeleteThanks Baabu Moshay! Do tell me if it did the magic like your poems do. 🌙
DeleteThis obsessive careerism might lead to material success, but ultimately, will only result in a hollow existence devoid of meaning.
ReplyDeleteStudying/working for 4 continuous hours is destructive to the human psyche.
Also, if you want to write an article, at least don't make a grammatical mistake in literally the first line. It should be "all this" not "these".
Thank you for pointing out the mistake, I have rectified it. I am really sorry for disappointing you with my article. However, I feel you have misunderstood it a little. Those 4 hours of studying need not be continuous at all, one can have small breaks at any time they want. I am glad you pointed it out. This routine I suggested is just a way of keeping track of time, a way to be self disciplined.
DeleteI totally agree with your view of running behind material success and I would never suggest anyone to do that. Please do read my other posts, I would love to know your reviews.
Have a great day ahead 🌙
I believe a routine helps to stay in track. I can totally relate to this. Are you my spooky twin ? Keep blogging!
ReplyDeleteZings mate 🌙
DeleteWow !! The first Para just hit me right in 😅 Kudos to the Lunar Pen for penning down an insightful article that i could actually relate to in many possible ways..
ReplyDeleteI am glad you could relate. Now do try the mantra and tell me if it worked. I am expecting an "YES" 😉🤞 All the best!! 🌙
DeleteThis post made me feel a little more about my activities, their values and if they enrich my life quality.
ReplyDeleteHoping that the same feeling repeats over time so that I can be more honest with myself. Definitely helps, thus keep blogging.
Thanks. 😉🤞 All the best!! 🌙
DeleteThe whole thought process of yours made me remember the old school book story, where teacher explains the same by doing a demonstration. Teacher take a jar and put balls in that, and then some marbles, then sand and then water and everything fits in though everytym it looked that there is no space for next object, but when he tried same thing in opposite sequence, that is first water then sand, glass jar gets filled with lesser things....hence professor says that we must know the priority of things in our life and this way we can accommodate everything with their necessary amount of necessity!!
ReplyDeleteGlad that you could relate to my writings. Life is all about the little things. Hain na?! And these sweet little comments always make my day!! Thanks buddy 🌙
DeleteLittle comment🙄....It took me to 400 seconds to type😅
